Last year, I got really into self-help and business development type books. It started with a classic that my Uncle Wayne gave me years ago, but I was too naive to truly appreciate at the time – Rich Dad, Poor Dad. I tore through that book like no other book I had ever read before. I was so inspired after reading it that I wanted more.

And I got more. And by got, I mean I put them on hold on the Libby library book app and waited anywhere from 2-11 weeks to check them out for 3 weeks of frenzied reading to finish them. I guess I’m just too cheap to pay for each book separately on Kindle or pay for the Audible membership. *shrugs*

As I read and learned more, I started gaining confidence in my ability to start and run a business – something I’ve wanted desperately since being a kid and learning the word ‘entrepreneur.’ I wanted this so badly, I even went ahead and got a business degree on the very subject of entrepreneurship.

2012 Entrepreneurial Business Grad. Go Rebels!

By the middle of 2018, I was starting the endeavor of pursuing one of my oldest known goals – starting my own clothing line.

The part that I have had the most trouble with so far is branding the clothing line. So to help combat this issue I was having, I turned to another self-help/business development book, but this one was different from the others I had been reading. This one was more like a self-help/business development work book where I fill in the blanks and do exercises to help me figure out my purpose and goals for the brand. I was so smitten with the idea of this book, I even ordered a physical copy to be able to write in it (I guess I’m not as cheap as I thought). The name of this book was The Conquer Kit by Natalie MacNeil – which I highly recommend by the way.

Now, I bet you’re kind of wondering what this all has to do with my so-called word of the year? Well my idea to have a word of the year stems directly from this book. I started filling out the book in 2018, and my word of the year for that time was ‘EXECUTE’ which I guess looking at it in all capital letters makes it look a lot more scary than what was intended but nevertheless that was it.

But this year, I was looking for something that would keep me on my toes, keep me moving forward, keep me in the right direction to accomplish my goals, and stay on the path with unwavering confidence, not letting a single negative thought skew my determination. And I think I found the perfect word:

MOMENTUM

I need to get up to speed and stay up to speed and keep my MOMENTUM all year long to turn these goals into success stories.

Do you have a word of the year for 2019? I’d love to see yours!
